Some thoughts on our current homeschool curriculum

 - by admin

And when I say curriculum, that would be ABCs with Ace and Christi. My son graduated last March from his Preschool with Ace and Christi with honors and we just got done with our first month on this current curriculum. This particular curriculum is designed to be preparatory for the child to shift to Level 1/Grade 1.

Ilex Ibex

 - by admin

I-lex, the i-bex, would not lie. “Ne-ver, ne-ver tell a lie!”

This is the new song that goes with the new animal that we have learned a couple of weeks ago. What I love about the curriculum of School of Tomorrow is its being able to incorporate character building with the lessons. As parents our drive is for our children to excel academically, that’s for sure. But we also want them to grow up beautiful people on the inside while they are at it.

This week’s animal: Quentin Quail

 - by admin

The new animal that we met this week was Quentin Quail. I love introducing new animals to my son. He is always thrilled what the new animal’s name will be and he would go guessing for possibly all the same letter sound for the animal. I would often get surprised that he actually knows what letter sound is next, just for me to find out that he turned a few advanced pages out of excitement.

Dream profession

 - by admin

Our son’s graduation is on March 12, 2010. We are one pretty excited bunch. Even the grannies are voicing out their intentions of coming to the ceremony with us. We received from the administration of The School of Tomorrow last November 2009 a letter with the list of things we have to submit to them to make it to the list of graduates. We submitted 5 pictures of our son: baby picture, recent photo (1 formal and 1 wacky), dressed according to his dream profession and a family picture.  I also have to submit grades very soon.

Benefits of Preschool with Ace and Christi Curriculum

 - by admin

I cannot remember anymore where exactly the hubby and I came to an understanding that we will homeschool our son. What I am definitely sure about is his influence on me after he came home from one of those administrators trainings that he attended in School of Tomorrow in Paranaque.

The hubby and I originally prayed about being able to start a preschool in the church where he pastors (www.sbcmakati.org). But for some reasons (including the fact that the church building’s locations isn’t a conducive one) this plan has not flourished yet. God has His perfect time. And because we are so sold out to the School of Tomorrow’s curriculum, we chose not to give our son second best. Hence, we chose homeschooling via SOT’s curriculum.

Our 22nd letter sound: V for Victor Vole

 - by admin

We met a new animal today and his name is Victor Vole.  The concepts that were taught along side the letter sound “V” are thorough, efficient, content, self accepting, sharing and adoption.  V is the 22nd letter sound that we have learned since we started homechooling last June 2009.

As my son’s teacher I am to reinforce throughout each day the letter sound that we focus on.  This week’s being, “V.”  It is important to pronounce the letter sound correctly.  While some might mistakenly pronounce it as “va,” it really should be pronounced as is — V.  Like for instance, the word Victor. If you teach a child to pronounce V as “va,” then he will get confused if he later reads the word as VAictor and you correcting him to pronounce it as Victor instead.

Learning about umbrella birds

 - by admin

This is the second day we are learning about umbrella birds.  It is actually the first time that I have encountered such animal.  Even as my son’s teacher, I am thrilled to be learning a lot myself.  The focus for this week’s animal is the sound of  ”short U”.  This is one of the images that we found from the internet of an umbrella bird.  The umbrella bird has a tuft of feathers that rises from the top of tis head.  This tuft of feathers makes the umbrella bird look as if it is carrying an umbrella all the time. The umbrella bird also has a flap of skin hanging down the ront of its neck.  This flap of skin is covered with feathers and looks like an umbrella handle.  Although the umbrella bird seems strange, it is a pretty bird. Its feathers are blue-black and shiny.  The umbrella bird is about the size of a crow.

Preschool with Ace and Christi Curriculum

 - by admin

Our family chose School of Tomorrow’s (Accelerated Christian Education) Preschool with Ace and Christ curriculum when we started homeschooling our 4 year old son June of 2009.  Here’s to give our readers a preview what this curriculum offers and its benefits that led us to choose the program.

Accelerated Christian Education’s learning-to-read program is called Preschool with Ace and Christi. This is a multisensory, phonetic program, designed to prepare a child for the individualized instruction of the A.C.E. program. This learning-to-read program should be attempted only after a child has been diagnosed “ready to read” using the Ace and Christi Reading Readiness Test. Within a period of 12 to 15 weeks, he will become acquainted with phonics through animals, songs, and stories. These features will help him learn and associate letter sounds, alphabet sequence, and word relationships. Additional activities have also been designed to help the student in his physical and character development.

Preschool with Ace and Christi utilizes a number of outstanding reading tools, such as a specially developed alphabet sequence, songs for each of the sounds, poems, displays, and physical activities. Additionally, character development activities and Bible stories are built in. The program is designed to be used in conjunction with Word Building PACEs 1001-1012, Math PACEs 1001-1003, Animal Science PACEs 1001-1012, and Bible Reading PACEs 1001-1012.

Special Features

  • Reading Readiness Test
  • Specially developed alphabet sequence
  • Songs for each of the sounds
  • Poems, displays, and physical activities
  • Post Test
  • Review Manual

Learning about Responsibility

 - by admin

One of the things that I love about School of Tomorrow’s Preschool with Ace and Christi curriculum is how they incorporate these (e.g. being responsible) to the lessons for the children to be able to easily grasp. Here is one of the things that we tackled last month. This was taken in November 24, 2009. This further reinforces the things that we have already taught our son.
